Christmas Weddings - Tis the Season for tips and ideas!

With Christmas less than a month away, tips and advise for this season of festivities along with the many weddings that occur around Christmas was a definite given to blog about. Christmas weddings are usually filled with all the festivities, drinks, food and colours of the season. They are full of bling, swing, are loud, full of energy and lots of excitement. So let's get into the different elements that can make your fantasy a reality at Christmas time.

INVITATIONS

Christmas wedding invitations are quite festive or reserved in their nature depending on the theme which could be rustic, winter or festive. Which ever the choice, its always a good idea to shop around as your invitation sets the tone for your event. The choices are endless for Christmas weddings and can be overwhelming to choose one. But take your time and select carefully.
Once selected, invitations should go out at least 4 to 5 months prior to the wedding date. This would allow for your guests to RSVP in a timely manner and allow you to activate a B list if needed or reduce your numbers with your vendors to reduce costs.

Be careful of the wording you place in the invitation as wording styles and order are specific to the circumstances and hosts for the wedding.... Yes these things do matter and it is important to select the correct style, order and wording so no particular family takes offense or is slighted in any way. So while emotions, festivities and excitement is on the high, one must pay attention to these details of the invitation, the families and the guests' impression of same.

 DECOR

This year the theme is mostly rustic with a lot of raw materials and wooden pieces used to create a natural effect and ambiance, with soft lighting and candles of course. If this is not your theme and you prefer something a bit more vibrant for this festive season, accent red as well as complimentary colours of the season is always a safe option. A winter theme wedding is usually quite beautiful and can be tastefully executed in white and variations of white to include pearls and ivory hues, or even some hints of blue and silver.

Of course, it is Christmas and a bit of glitz and glamour is always welcome in silver or gold dependent on the colour scheme. Centre pieces can range from Pine cones to Christmas trees and all that goes in between. Soft lighting and candles are lovely in a centrepiece for a Christmas theme wedding as it brings a warmth and intimate setting to this special event.
It is always a great idea to check out the reviews and work of any decorator before securing their services. you want to make sure that you can assess their work and determine if their style is indeed what you want, and if they are capable of delivering your vision for your big day. Incorporating Christmas in your wedding is a wonderful idea, however execution of this idea is paramount to the success of the event setting, for the wedding and the experience of your guests. There are numerous ideas and themes to select and this is solely up to the couple.

Many of the decorative pieces and ideas are also quite simple once you can access the relevant items, which can save a bundle, once you have someone with creative juices and a DIY kit with an understanding of the concept or
imagery you desire.

A personal favourite is the use of natural wood, soft lighting and pine cones with some foliage to set the tone.

The poinsettia is a classical decor piece used locally as a decor item for that flavour, and it does it beautifully in this particular setting as it gives just that subtle lift of colour among the natural setting. Once designed properly by your decorator or event designer, your dream Christmas wedding is surely on its way to becoming a reality.

CATERING & BAR

A Trini Christmas wedding must have certain popular dishes aside from the appetizers such as a pumpkin or callaloo soup, the main course which can include the Roasted turkey with herb, almond and stuffing, Trini Christmas ham with pineapple, Roast Beer in creole sauce and fried Salmon in Tamarind sauce.

The side could be stewed pigeon peas, rice pilaf sweet potatoes, buttered herb vegetables and mixed green salad. Popular dishes would be beef , chicken and vegetable pastels.

Festive drinks are sorrel shandy or drink, ginger beer and of course punche a creme.

For the desserts, a fruit cake nice if its not in the cake boxes to guests, a rum fruit trifle or even a
simple coconut ice cream or fruit sorbet. The key element is taste and having a tasting before confirming must occur in order to ensure there are no surprises on the day.

WEDDING DRESSES

A wedding dress for a Christmas theme wedding is simply an amazing elegant dress. This is the ballroom, show stopper kind of dress for the occasion. Elegant, classy and poised for the occasion, demanding the attention that the bride requires on her special day. The dress must make a statement upon entry. A touch of red is for the daring bride who really makes a statement upon entry.

WEDDING CAKES

The cake is totally the choice of the couple. There are some new styles of cakes for 2018 that are mind blowing and of course you can choose any flavour you wish. It's Christmas so Fruit cake is expected naturally.

However, this is not necessarily what has to be chosen as couples are more vocal about their preferences and tend to step away from tradition when selecting flavours for their cakes which are sometimes chosen for each different tier, a different flavour. Again be sure to do a tasting of the different types of flavours selected as taste differs based on vendors, so you want to ensure it is to your liking and expectation on the day.

Christmas wedding are usually a warm and wonderful experience among family, friends and guests and it brings so much joy and happiness to a couple to share this experience and their special day with all. So make it count, dot all the Is and cross all the Ts to ensure a stress free and wonderful occasion.
