From our previous blog on The Traditional Hindu Wedding, we decided to give some tips and ideas to our potential brides. Venues, dresses and catering are a few of the categories we will talk about in this particular blog.

CATERING (FOOD & DRINK)
A Hindu wedding does not consist of any Meat or Alcohol. The menu is completely vegetarian and the drinks serves are usually soft. A token of sweets in a box or bag is usually given to guests which consists of kurma, parsad, barfi and some kind of fruit. The main meal is usually served on a banana leaf and consists of all the Indian vegetarian dishes such as channa & aloo, pumpkin, paratha roti, rice, mango, dhal, bhaji and tomatoes choka. The meal is usually accompanies by a very hot pepper sauce known as "mother in law". The drinks serves are usually juice, water or carbonated soft drink.ENTERTAINMENT:
At a Hindu wedding, the use of a Tassa band is a must. There are so many stages in the Hindu wedding that requires this celebrating sound during all the pre marital rites, rituals and days leading up to the day of marriage. Of course there are many Tassa groups, which are each good in their own right, but when selecting be sure to select a group that can give the versatility of sound you need for the different elements of the marriage ceremony.
You would also want to be sure that they look uniformed and dressed for you wedding for impact. Whether its in the same colour shirts and black trousers or something a bit more elaborate with waistcoats or traditional Indian wear, be sure to be specific when selecting so they are aware of your expectation. Dhol drumming is one of the preferred choices for drumming recently as it gives a Bollywood twist to the drumming with songs people can identify with.

However there are other items that can be left to the bride and groom such as the reception decor which includes the entrance, stage, tables and stations, lighting and general decor in specific areas. Gold elephants, pieces and statues are usually present in most decor for a Hindu wedding. The colours selected for the theme can be vibrant or of a specific theme, such as Moroccan, Asian or even Lebanon. Which ever theme is selected, be sure to choose a decorator who has executed similar jobs and can show pictures and evidence of their work.
Its also a good idea to check reviews on decorators and their standard of work ethics and quality of work before securing their services, especially as it relates to the decor required for the temple or ceremony location, as this has to be spot on without failure for the related marriage rituals.
